Winners

Rešoketšwe is an engineer who works in mining research. But sometimes she’s a storyteller. She has won the 2019 Writivism Short Story Prize and the 2020 Dinaane Debut Fiction Award, and she was the first runner-up for the 2019 Collins Elesiro Prize for Fiction. Her short stories and poems have appeared in the Kalahari Review, Fireside Fiction, FIYAH, and the 2017 Sol Plaatjie European Union Anthology, among others. If you happen to meet her, please ask her about her debut novel from Jacana Media. It’s called Scatterlings, and she’s sure you’ll love it. But please, also talk to her about the endangered wild fruit Balobedu children once enjoyed in summer.

As an international student from Kenya, I've been interested in focusing on the experiences of 'the other', on how to maneuver new spaces while still pursuing creative art, and finally using that art to give oral and Kenyan stories a voice.

Obinna Obioma is a liberal writer and social analyst. His writings have appeared or are forthcoming on Writers Space Africa, Active Muse, Lunaris, Afritondo, K and L, Love Africa Press and elsewhere. When he's not laughing at his own jokes, he's exploring the fantasies of worlds only a Coca-Cola-induced mind can conceive.

Jason Mykl Snyman is a writer from South Africa. His work has appeared in several publications, including New Contrast, Jalada Africa, Rock and a Hard Place, Kalahari Review, Helios Quarterly, The Examined Life Review, Expound, and more. He has been shortlisted for both the Short Story Day Africa and the Bloody Parchment prizes.

I am Chukwudumebi Onoh, a 20 year old woman of Nigerian descent, raised by an Igbo father and a Yoruba mother. As a final year communications student, I am aware of the power the arts and the media, which acts as a surrogate, wield in shaping the minds of the people who exposed to these things, and I am intentional about utilizing my voice for the cause of the African people and Black people at large.

Chibuike Ogbonnaya is a gender fluid writer interested in writing stories of women, feminine gay men, transvestites, and genderqueer. Chibuike holds a combined honors in English and Literary Studies and History and International Studies from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. They recently completed a collection of thematically linked short stories featuring women, feminine gay men, transvestites, and gender queer.
